GLP-1 (glucagon-like peptide-1) receptor agonists are a class of medication that mimic a natural hormone your body already produces in the gut.
They work in three main ways:
- Slowing how quickly food leaves your stomach, so you feel fuller for longer after meals
- Reducing appetite signals in the brain, so you naturally want to eat less
- Helping your body manage blood sugar by improving how insulin is released
The two GLP-1s we prescribe at Bliss are semaglutide (Wegovy) and tirzepatide (Mounjaro). Tirzepatide is actually a dual GIP/GLP-1 agonist, which means it works on two appetite-regulating hormones — but the mechanism and experience are very similar.
GLP-1s are most effective when combined with the lifestyle changes built into your Bliss programme — supportive coaching, habit-building, and a sustainable approach to eating and movement.
