Will my hair fall out?

Some members notice hair thinning a few months into their journey. The reassuring news: it's almost always temporary, and it's usually not the medication itself — it's the rapid weight loss.

Why it happens

Any significant change in your body — losing weight quickly, big changes in diet, hormonal shifts, stress — can trigger something called telogen effluvium. More hair follicles than usual go into the resting phase at the same time, and you notice extra hair coming out 2–4 months later.

It happens after pregnancy, illness, or any major weight loss, not just GLP-1s.

What helps

  • Prioritise protein — aim for 1.2–1.6g per kg of body weight per day. Hair is made of protein
  • Include iron-rich foods — red meat, leafy greens, beans, fortified cereals
  • Don't skip meals — even with reduced appetite, get a nutritious intake
  • Consider a multivitamin with biotin, zinc, and B vitamins — especially if your intake is lower than usual
  • Be gentle with your hair — avoid tight ponytails, heat styling, and harsh chemical treatments while it's recovering

Hair growth almost always returns to normal within 6–12 months once your weight stabilises. If you're worried, your Bliss coach can help you review your nutrition.
